A unique and unforgettable experience: the #UPGSustainability Pilgrimage to Hurricane Island (USA) provides further opportunities to UPG Sustainability Leaders. The island is a crowning experience that both rewards those who are chosen and also strengthens them.

During the immersive week on the island, candidates are presented with different experiences to understand how to address the challenges of specific ecosystems in a sustainable way. The chosen candidates will also have the opportunity to explore the local environment, understand problems, challenges, and think about sustainable solutions based on field investigations.

A select number of courses may also be integrated within the Island curriculum, particularly where instruction can be “in-person.” This experience is conducted in an environment that brings several sustainable living practices to life.

Subject to the PREVAILING COVID 19 RULES and REGULATIONS, at least 60 UPG Sustainability Leaders will be able to live this experience this year.

Please note that the travel dates require most people (especially those outside the USA) to start flying 2 days earlier so that they can begin the pilgrimage on the first date below. Each first date below is a Sunday and the typical travel departure date is the Friday that is 2 days before. For example, if the pilgrimage starts on Sunday 19 May, then the travelling will begin on Friday, 17 May.
On the Island there are currently limitations for any disabilities related to mobility. This is related to safety, equipment and infrastructure. And we hope that it can be addressed in the future. For any other disabilities or health issues, please let us know and we will check with the Island to know what arrangements can be made. We will treat all information as confidential and we will only use it in the assessment of the Hurricane Island opportunity. Please note that failure to disclose an allergy or health issue could put you or others in danger. As family we have to trust each other to protect each other. Any omission would be taken seriously and so any omission will be deemed to be fraudlent behaviour and to be in violation of the Candidate Agreement; and any such behaviour will have consequences. Please note that if you are allergic to pollen (i.e. Hay Fever), please note it too - For your information, such an allergy poses no problem or obstacle to participation.

UPG Sustainability Leaders have the status of UPG Champions in the UPG Community. And each year UPG Champions can make a contribution of CHF 50 per YEAR. This is about USD 56 per year or USD 4.50 per month. It can be paid in one payment or in several smaller payments.
