UPG Action Guidelines are designed to foster environments that empower people.
They reflect UPG’s mission as well as how we choose to live, to play and to work.
We invite people “opt in” as opposed to forcing them to “opt out”. We do not force people to do things. We do not force our views on people.
Freedom is even more powerful with independence. Just as we value our independence, we also value and protect the independence of others.
Diversity is embraced as an essential outcome of freedom and independence. We work with people from all walks of life, and we encourage people to be themselves.
We strive to protect the dignity of every stakeholder and we apologise if we ever fall short. There is no situation that requires a person to be denied their dignity.
We believe that ordinary people have the power to make the world a better place and even in difficult situations, we focus on positive ways that people can contribute solutions.
In situations where “right” or “wrong” may not be clear, we focus on exploring the best possible outcomes; with the recognition that finding any “best” solution depends on engaging several stakeholders.
United we stand and together we rise. We never fight alone. We understand that relationships are paramount and that collaborations create the most sustainable solutions. We understand that most actions are best done collectively. Nurturing community enables all else.
Courage is triumph over fear. In moments of fear, we find the courage to take action. In these moments, silence, violence, and deflection are often among the worst responses.
We always share our understanding of the truth as a priority above any consequences for our own power. This requires us to exercise our courage.
We take responsibility for our
mandate (not only our tasks), which includes all matters that conceivably fall under our responsibility.
We believe that structure sets you free and so we work in a manner that is structured, coordinated and disciplined. This does not preclude spontaneity and serendipity.
Is an attitude and a habit that is formed through practice. We strive for excellence.
Love is a guiding principle across these guidelines.
And integrity comes from ensuring that our actions and our words are consistent with our guidelines.
And since words have power, these action guidelines are also communication guidelines.
