Rosamund Stone Zander was a celebrated landscape painter, passionate environmentalist, loving mother, and best-selling author who inspired readers to shift their thinking and live a life of meaning and possibility. She was a quiet yet very generous philanthropist, funding projects and activities with local impact in all world regions. She adamantly believed that it is our duty as human beings to combat climate change and to create a more sustainable world. She is survived by her husband, Hansjörg Wyss; her daughter, Alexandra Shor, her son, Evan Bageris; her grandchildren, Jack and Poppy Shor; her sister, Lucy Stone McNeece; and her nephews, Christopher and Timothy McNeece.
Every problem, every dilemma, every dead end we find ourselves facing in life, only appears unsolvable inside a particular frame or point of view. Enlarge the box, or create another frame around the data, and problems vanish, while new opportunities appear.
Rosamund Stone Zander
Rosamund Zander is loved and acknowledged as a Founding and Flagship Partner of the UPG Sustainability Leadership movement. In late 2018, after the publication by climate scientists of a damning report on the state of our world and the imperative to do much more, Rosamund Zander had conversations with Yemi Babington-Ashaye about this. The conversations focused on the dire state and the troubling prospects for the future. At a decisive point, Rosamund Zander made the suggestion that Yemi Babington-Ashaye (President at UPG) and Bo Hoppin (Executive Director at Hurricane Island Center for Science and Leadership) should speak to each other and see if there was a way to work together on this challenge. An arranged marriage was born! And she blessed this marriage with a commitment to fund the activities that would result. UPG Sustainability Leadership was designed as a movement to mobilise stakeholders with a focus on young leaders. And a very special part of the design takes place on Hurricane Island. Both organisations have worked in close collaboration since the beginning and in the years that followed Rosamund Zander was always steadfast in her love, her support and in her regular reminders of the need to do more and to create more impact. She is embraced as a Patron Saint of the #UPGSustainability movement; a movement that has reached thousands of young leaders across all world regions with both local and global impact.
