#UPGSustainability Leadership is a movement that mobilises individuals and organisations to support positive citizen leadership on sustainability. This movement is led by UPG Sustainability Leaders and each year UPG trains 500+ UPG Sustainability Leaders from all world regions to join the existing family of outstanding leaders who are taking action within their communities to demonstrate the power of citizens to create a more sustainable world. As part of their actions, UPG Sustainability Leaders have directly trained over 86,000 citizens across the world (and counting). We salute them as warriors for a more sustainable world. We are thrilled and ready to train the next Class of ambassadors and warriors for positive citizen leadership on sustainability. Welcome. This is an application to take part in the world’s best and largest training on sustainability leadership. This is an application to become a UPG Sustainability Leader. Successful Applicants will become Candidates in the training and then successful candidates will become Leaders in the UPG Sustainability Leadership movement. What we are looking for: We are building a diverse group of people who are taking positive action that helps the world to tackle sustainability challenges. And so please show us who you are because we are NOT looking for the “same” type of people. This opportunity is FREE to selected Applicants and so we are looking for the most motivated among the applicants. Is your passion for and commitment to sustainability strong enough? Are you willing to stand proudly and to take your place among a family of warriors for a more sustainable world? Successful applicants always take extra steps to demonstrate their motivation to become UPG Sustainability Leaders.
 
 
Diversity among UPG Sustainability Leaders: UPG Sustainability Leaders include the following people described below.
– people who are passionate in a specific area (e.g. jobs or education or oceans), there is no need to be passionate in all areas.
– people who have already taken action related to sustainability AND people who have NEVER taken action
– people from all world regions
– people aged 18 to 35 between 1 March and 31 July 2025
– people of different levels of education
– people who have a strong motivation to be UPG Sustainability Leaders
– people who are willing and able to take action on sustainability
– people who believe in UPG’s mission to empower people to make the world a better place through positive action.
 
 
Finally this diversity means that everyone stands a chance when we make the selection of the final UPG Sustainability Leaders. Please note that between 1 March and 31 July 2025, your age must be a minimum of 18 years and a maximum of 35 years. This ensures that all participants are within this age group for the duration of the training and experiences that are planned. Please also note that candidates are required to be able to speak, read and write in English as the training is conducted in English.

Evaluation Guidance: The evaluation is done by reviewing the following four sections of your application:
A. Profile – who are you? This helps us to strive for diversity.
B. Motivation – why do you want to be a UPG Sustainability Leader?
C. Capability – how capable are you to do what you want to do?
D. Potential for Impact – what is the potential of your early ideas?

As part of this application, it is strongly recommended that you submit a short video (maximum 2 minutes) to answer any of the questions from any section above or to tell us more about yourself. Among other things, the video helps us evaluate your English language skills. You may submit that video by including a link to the video in the application now (there is a section in the application for this). You may also complete the application first and mention that you will do the video later. Then, submit a link to your video here: https://upglive.org/sharecontent-upgs. For your video to be considered it must be submitted by the deadline.

Required Commitments for Applicants:
I understand that if selected as a UPG Sustainability Leader, I commit to leading a sustainability-related project within my community and I commit to organising at least 1 mini-training session to share with others some of what I learnt as part of my training. I commit to initiating these actions within 3 months of completing my training. If chosen, I understand that I will remain or become part of the UPG Community as a Champion. I understand that the training (and the certification) marks the beginning (and not the end) of the #UPGSustainability Journey. I understand that once certified as a #UPGSustainability Leader, I become a leader within the movement to demonstrate and to spread positive citizen leadership on sustainability.

If you cannot make these commitments or you are not eligible, please stay connected. Training Sustainability Leaders is one activity within UPG’s Sustainability Leadership initiative. You may be able to participate in other activities and so please sign up to receive updates. And you can also join UPG and participate in even more activities.
