Leadership experience
I am a member and an Ambassador representing my faculty for a public health club in my school, the Antimicrobial Resistance Club – Ahmadu Bello University where I have served as an intermediary between the club and my faculty. I have collaborated with class representatives across all levels within the faculty educating them on AMR, it’s threats, our mission and goals and also call for membership. The class representatives showed interest and I was assured maximum cooperation in which they did.
During the World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week (WAAW) 2024, with the resources and financial support gained from Stop Superbugs Squad and the One Health and Development Initiative, I led a team of five public health enthusiasts to raising awareness on the growing threat of Antimicrobial Resistance(AMR) and how to mitigate it. We visited three Pharmaceutical outlets, two Veterinary Clinics and a Primary Healthcare Centre in Zaria and Sabon Gari Local Government Area of Kaduna state, Nigeria. We trained health care workers on AMR and their roles in mitigating AMR. We also distributed educational materials to healthcare workers, patients and clients. We successfully help in promoting awareness of AMR among the people of Zaria and Sabon Gari community.

I was a volunteer for the Alliance Against Antimicrobial Resistance (Triple A) Champions, Kaduna state where I served a role as a community engagement manager and I organized sensitization talks to be held at a secondary school, a church and a mosque within Zaria, Kaduna state. I learned the importance of early planning and teamwork.
I also volunteered in submitting an AMR advocacy letter written by Ducit Blue Foundation in collaboration with Triple A to the Zonal Director Veterinary Clinic, Kaduna state Ministry of Agriculture.
I also submitted a Universal Health Coverage (UHC)  advocacy letter on health literacy written by the African Public Health Student Network Initiative supported by World Health Organization (WHO) Youth Council to the Executive Chairman, Zaria Local Government Secretariat, Kaduna state.
I was a volunteer in a Veterinary Medical Outreach Organized by Nigerian Association of Muslim Veterinary Medical Students (NAMVEMS) held at Samaru Community, Zaria where I treated minor bruises and ear infection in dog, dewormed sheep and goats and also gave antibiotics and Multivitamin to a chicken. I also taught my junior colleagues simple restraints and ways of administering medications to  patients. I got to meet colleagues whom I never known before and we established a good bond.
I volunteered in a Medical Outreach Organized by The Unique Life (TUL) Foundation held at Danraka, Mil goma and Bomo Village, Sabon Gari Local Government Area, Kaduna State were I gave a sensitization talk in Hausa language to young girls at Madrasatul Tarbiyyatil Islamiyyah Wallugatil Arabiyyah on Hygiene at Danraka, Samaru. I was also part of the medical team for the medical outreach, I conducted Malaria test and also Blood Group test and I also explained to the women of the community the importance of blood group and Rhesus factors in Bomo village.
I have also volunteered in making a research and slide preparations for an outreach program held at Government girls school Tudun Nupawa, Kaduna on the Importance of Hygiene in Preventing the Spread of Illnesses organized by the Foundation for Drytaps and river basin rejuvenation.

Water Conservation and Protection
Water is a critical resource for all life on Earth, and its sustainable management is essential for environmental and  human health. By implementing Water Conservation and Protection, we can help ensure the availability and quality of water resources for future generations while promoting a culture of environmental responsibility within your organization or community.
This project aligns with UPG’s pillars as it promotes awareness of water-related sustainability issues, promotes beliefs that value water conservation, encourages collaboration among various stakeholders, and strengthens community bonds through collective action. This project will promote responsible use of water and local water resources in the community. It will also encourage water saving practices such as using rain barrels for water collection and implementing water efficient landscaping techniques.

I may face limited resources and funding but by seeking partnerships with local businesses, organizations, government agencies and relevant stakeholders, I may be able to secure additional funding and resources. I could also investigate potential grants or funding opportunities specifically geared toward environmental initiatives.
There may be lack of community awareness and non-cooperations but by organizing educational events and workshops to raise awareness about the importance of water conservation and protection and utilizing social media, newsletters, and other communication channels, we can actively engage with community members and encourage their participation in the project.
I may experience inadequate technical expertise and knowledge gaps, so by collaborating with experts in the field of water management, such as hydrologists, ecologists, or environmental engineers, to fill knowledge gaps and ensure the project’s effectiveness. I could also offer training and workshops to educate community members on water-saving practices and monitoring techniques.
Regulatory hurdles may be another challenge. Building relationships with local authorities and decision-makers will help navigate any regulatory challenges and ensuring that the project aligns with local environmental policies and secure any necessary permits or approvals before initiating activities.
