My name is Adem Mani, I am a finance graduate currently pursuing my master’s degree in finance and actuarial science. I work as an International Commercial with Ozeol, an international purchasing company, where I am gaining valuable experience in global commerce and sustainability.
My journey has included volunteering with AIESEC in Sri Lanka as a marine life saver, which opened my eyes to the pressing environmental issues we face. I also had the privilege of working with the Red Cross during the COVID-19 pandemic, where I helped support those in need during a challenging time. I consider my strengths to be my ability to connect with others and my dedication to making a positive impact in my community.
I am passionate about learning and currently developing a business plan aimed at reducing plastic pollution in my country. This initiative is inspired by my experiences in Sri Lanka, where I learned the importance of protecting our environment. I believe my unique background and perspectives can contribute to meaningful discussions and solutions, and I look forward to the opportunity to share and grow with others.

I would like to focus on my experience in volunteering. One significant time I used this strength was during my volunteer work with AIESEC in Sri Lanka, where I served as a marine life saver.
During this project, we aimed to protect marine ecosystems and raise awareness about the importance of preserving our oceans. As part of our efforts, we organized a beach clean-up event to address the issue of plastic pollution affecting local wildlife. I took the initiative to coordinate with local communities, businesses, and fellow volunteers to ensure the event was well-organized and impactful.
I reached out to local schools and organizations to invite students and community members to participate. I also collaborated with local businesses to secure donations for supplies, such as trash bags and refreshments for the volunteers. On the day of the event, we had a great turnout, with over 50 volunteers joining us to clean the beach.
During the clean-up, I engaged with participants, sharing information about the impact of plastic waste on marine life and encouraging everyone to think about ways to reduce their plastic use in daily life. This experience not only helped clean the beach but also fostered a sense of community and raised awareness about the importance of environmental protection.
The success of the event inspired me to continue advocating for sustainability initiatives back in my home country. It reinforced my belief in the power of collaboration and community involvement in addressing environmental issues. This experience solidified my commitment to sustainability and motivated me to pursue further projects aimed at protecting our planet.

if I were to lead a sustainability-related project in my community, I would create a community recycling program. The aim of this project would be to educate residents about the importance of recycling and provide resources for proper waste disposal.
I would start by holding workshops to teach the community about recycling practices, the effects of waste on the environment, and how recycling can help reduce plastic pollution. I would invite local experts to speak about sustainable waste management and share best practices.
Next, I would work with local businesses and organizations to set up recycling drop-off points throughout the community. These locations would make it easier for residents to recycle items like plastic, glass, and paper. I would also partner with recycling companies to ensure that the collected materials are processed correctly.
To encourage participation, I would launch a community challenge where residents could compete to see who recycles the most materials over a specific time. This friendly competition could build community spirit and motivate people to take part in recycling efforts.
By leading this project, I aim to create a cleaner environment, raise awareness about waste management, and inspire others to adopt sustainable practices in their daily lives. Ultimately, this initiative would contribute to a more sustainable community and help reduce our overall environmental impact.

I expect to face while implementing the community recycling program, along with ways I would overcome them:
Lack of Awareness: Many residents may not know the importance of recycling or how to do it correctly.
Solution: I would organize educational workshops and distribute easy-to-understand materials about recycling practices. Partnering with local schools and community centers can help reach more people.
Participation and Engagement: It may be hard to get people to join the program.
Solution: I would create incentives, like a community challenge or rewards for those who recycle the most. Promoting the program through social media and local events can also help attract interest.
Logistical Issues: Setting up recycling drop-off points and ensuring they are emptied regularly can be challenging.
Solution: I would work with local businesses and the municipality to secure locations and arrange for regular pickups. Having a clear schedule for collection can help keep the program running smoothly.
Contamination of Recyclables: Incorrect sorting of materials can make recycling difficult.
Solution: I would provide clear signage at recycling drop-off points and guidelines on what can and cannot be recycled. Ongoing education and awareness campaigns would encourage proper recycling habits.
Funding: Securing funding for the program may be a challenge.
Solution: I would look for partnerships with local businesses and apply for grants for environmental projects. Organizing fundraising events can also help raise the necessary funds.
