Yes! That is really who you are!

My name is Abbad Abdelkader. I’m a community manager and soft skills trainer, actively engaged in various projects focused on youth development and skill enhancement. Currently, I’m a leader in the Google Developer Student Club (GDSC) at USTO, where I work with a dedicated team across different departments, including events, marketing, and external relations. I’m also involved with the Youth for Algeria initiative, where I deliver training sessions on essential soft skills like communication, creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking. Passionate about fostering growth and learning, I enjoy creating engaging learning experiences for my community.

Leadership Skills: I have experience leading teams and organizing community initiatives, which has helped me develop strong leadership abilities. I can motivate and guide others toward achieving sustainability goals. Communication: I am skilled in communicating complex ideas clearly and effectively, both to individuals and larger groups. This allows me to raise awareness and inspire action on sustainability issues. Critical Thinking: I approach problems with a strategic mindset, analyzing various perspectives and finding innovative, practical solutions to sustainability challenges. Collaboration: I am highly collaborative and enjoy working with diverse groups of people to achieve common goals. I believe teamwork is essential in driving large-scale positive environmental and social change.

One time I utilized my collaboration skills was during a community event I co-organized to promote environmental awareness in my city. The event aimed to educate local residents about recycling, reducing waste, and sustainable living. I worked closely with a diverse group of volunteers, local businesses, and environmental experts to ensure the event’s success.

To bring this project to life, I fostered partnerships with local eco-friendly businesses to sponsor the event, organized teams of volunteers to handle logistics, and collaborated with environmental experts to lead workshops. By ensuring everyone’s contributions were valued and communication was clear, we created an engaging, informative event that drew a large audience. As a result, we not only raised awareness but also initiated a community recycling program that has been running successfully since the event.

This experience reinforced my belief that collaboration is essential for driving sustainability initiatives forward. Working together as a community allowed us to achieve a positive and lasting impact.

Yes, I have been involved in several volunteer experiences. One of the most impactful was my work with the Google Developer Student Club (GDSC) at my university, where I served as a core team member in the organization department. During this time, I helped organize workshops and events focused on technology and innovation, bringing together students to learn about topics like coding, artificial intelligence, and project management.

Through this experience, I learned the importance of teamwork and leadership in achieving common goals. I also discovered how rewarding it is to contribute to a cause that empowers others with new skills and opportunities. Additionally, volunteering taught me how to manage my time effectively, communicate with diverse groups of people, and overcome challenges,

The project would include the following key components:

Awareness Campaigns: Educating the community on the environmental impact of waste and the importance of reducing single-use plastics, food waste, and other non-recyclable materials.
Recycling Programs: Partnering with local businesses and organizations to set up accessible recycling stations, as well as promoting composting practices for organic waste.
Workshops and Challenges: Hosting workshops to teach individuals and families how to live more sustainably, such as reducing consumption, reusing materials, and repurposing waste. We could also introduce challenges, like a “Plastic-Free Month” or a “Zero-Waste Week,” to motivate people to adopt greener lifestyles.
Community Cleanup Events: Organizing cleanup drives to collect trash from local neighborhoods, parks, and beaches to restore natural environments and raise awareness about pollution.

One of the main challenges I expect in leading a Zero-Waste Initiative would be changing the habits and mindsets of community members. Many people may not be aware of the environmental impact of waste or might find it difficult to shift away from convenience-driven, single-use items. To overcome this, I would focus on education and awareness campaigns that highlight the long-term benefits of adopting sustainable practices. By providing easy-to-understand information, showing tangible examples of waste reduction, and organizing engaging workshops, I could make sustainability more accessible and appealing to people.

Another challenge could be logistics and funding. Implementing a community-wide recycling program or setting up composting stations requires resources and infrastructure. To address this, I would actively seek partnerships with local businesses, government agencies, and environmental organizations. By securing sponsorships or grants and working with partners who have experience in waste management, I can ensure that the initiative is well-supported and sustainable.

Lastly, I anticipate possible low participation or engagement from community members at the start. To counter this, I would introduce incentives like challenges (e.g., a “Plastic-Free Month” with prizes for participants) and create social media campaigns to keep people excited and motivated. I would also highlight success stories of individuals or families reducing waste, inspiring others to take action and gradually increasing community involvement.
