Well, my name is Anes Bahaa Eddine Zemmouri, but people call me Anes. Since the earliest days I can remember, I’ve always felt that something big is waiting for me to achieve. I live in a place called Tissemsilt, located in Algeria, between the west and the center of the country.
I started school when I was just 4 years old, which meant I studied with older classmates throughout primary school. Despite this, I excelled and was the top student in my class, one of the best in the entire school a streak that has continued until now.
Currently, I’m a university student in my final year of my bachelor’s degree. For the past two years, I’ve been the top student in my class. I am someone who thrives on competition, always seeking to improve and asking myself, “What’s next?” I believe the best is yet to come, even though I’m deeply grateful for the blessings I have in my life right now.
Of course, no one is perfect. I am a shy person at times, and I tend to see the good in people even if it sometimes ends up hurting me. However, I’m driven by a passion for competition and rising to new challenges.
Strong personality adaptable and can work with different people
One of my strengths is my ability to work well with others, even in diverse or challenging situations. A time when I used this strength was during a university group project for one of our major courses. The task required us to create a fully functional web application within a tight deadline, and our team consisted of people with different skill levels, personalities, and approaches to problem-solving.
At the start, there were disagreements about the division of tasks and how to approach the project. Recognizing this, I took the initiative to bring everyone together, encourage open communication, and ensure each person’s voice was heard. I facilitated discussions to clarify roles based on everyone’s strengths and proposed a clear roadmap with milestones to keep us on track.
Throughout the project, I made it a point to check in regularly with team members, offering help where needed and mediating any conflicts that arose. For instance, when two team members had opposing ideas about the app’s design, I worked with them to merge their ideas into a cohesive plan that satisfied both.
In the end, not only did we complete the project successfully, but we also earned top marks for it. More importantly, the team dynamics improved significantly, and everyone felt proud of their contributions. This experience reinforced my belief in the power of collaboration and my ability to bring people together to achieve a common goal.
I haven’t had the opportunity to do any volunteering so far because I live in a smaller town where there aren’t many volunteer opportunities available. However, I’ve always been interested in contributing to my community and making a positive impact. For example, I’ve thought about initiating small local projects, like planting trees or organizing clean-up days, to bring people together and address some of the challenges we face, such as desertification and lack of green spaces.
Undergraduate: I have completed an undergraduate degree
If I were to lead a sustainability-related project in my community, I would launch the “Green Horizons Initiative” to address desertification and promote eco-friendly practices. This project would focus on organizing tree-planting campaigns to combat soil erosion and improve air quality, setting up community gardens to encourage local food production, and hosting workshops to teach sustainable habits like recycling and water conservation. Additionally, we would introduce recycling stations and organize clean-up events to keep public spaces tidy and raise awareness about environmental responsibility. I believe this project would not only benefit the environment but also bring people together, creating a healthier and more connected community while ensuring a better future for everyone
When working on a university project with a team, a challenge I often face is when two people have completely different ideas and neither is willing to compromise. This can create tension and delay progress, as both individuals are determined to stick to their own approach. To overcome this, I would encourage open dialogue, where each person can explain their reasoning behind their idea. I would then try to find a middle ground that incorporates the best elements from both perspectives, ensuring that the project moves forward without disregarding anyone’s input. If necessary, I would mediate by suggesting alternative solutions or compromises that align with the overall goals of the project. Maintaining a focus on collaboration and the bigger picture is key to resolving these kinds of conflicts and keeping the team on track.
