What an amazing opportunity! You did great job.

Hi, I’m Quynh Thi Nhu Nguyen, a junior at Vietnam Maritime University, majoring in Foreign Trade. Growing up in a coastal city, I’ve always seen the potential in logistics and international trade. But my true passion lies in sustainable development, and I dream of supporting my family by doing what I love while making a positive impact on the world.

That’s why I joined the A.N Paper project, where we produce paper from water hyacinth. This project aligns with the 11th and 12th Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations. Water hyacinth is an invasive plant that pollutes water, clogs waterways, and harms aquatic ecosystems. By turning it into a valuable resource, we help control its spread while promoting eco-friendly paper production—reducing the need for wood and fighting deforestation.

It’s amazing that after four years of hard work, we’ve successfully created paper from this plant, proving the potential of alternative materials in paper manufacturing. As the MarCom leader for A.N Paper, one of my biggest challenges has been raising awareness about our green paper, especially in a market where eco-friendly options are still niche. It’s been a long journey, but I’m confident that we can continue to grow and make a bigger impact!

1. Passion for Sustainability 2. Leadership Skills 3. Effective Communication 4. Collaboration 5. Adaptability

Well I assume that Passion for Sustainability is both my strength and my motivation to pursue this field.

My passion for sustainability was a driving force behind the creation of the A.N Paper project. Living in a region heavily impacted by water pollution, I became deeply concerned about the environmental damage caused by the rapid spread of water hyacinth. This passion pushed me to explore how we could turn this environmental threat into something useful.

Despite numerous challenges, my passion kept me motivated and persistent. Over time, my team and I successfully developed a process to create eco-friendly paper from the plant, addressing both pollution and deforestation issues. This project has allowed me to channel my passion into real-world impact, and it continues to fuel my commitment to creating sustainable solutions.

Yes, I have experience as a volunteer. I organised hair donation project for cancer patients in local scope and actively involved in environmental clean-up initiatives in my community. One of the most impactful projects I joined was organizing and participating in a waterway clean-up campaign. This initiative aimed to remove waste and invasive plants, like water hyacinth, from local rivers and lakes.

As a volunteer, I helped with the physical clean-up efforts, educating the public on the importance of keeping our water systems clean and sustainable. Through these experiences, I learned the power of community engagement and how collective action can create a significant positive impact.

Undergraduate: I have completed an undergraduate degree

I’m actually working for a sustainability-related project named A.N Paper. The A.N Paper project addresses several key issues by transforming water hyacinth, an invasive aquatic plant, into sustainable paper.

Water hyacinth causes water pollution and clogs water ways, threatening aquatic ecosystems. By turning this harmful plant into a resource, the project helps control its spread and promotes eco-friendly paper production, reducing the need for wood and combating deforestation. In addition to environmental benefits, A.N Paper focuses on waste management, repurposing water hyacinth instead of relying on costly removal methods that are usually conducted by authority only. The project also creates economic opportunities by generating jobs in rural areas, offering a sustainable way to manage water hyacinth while supporting local economies.

The A.N Paper project combines environmental sustainability with innovation, turning a local ecological challenge into a broader climate solution.

As I mentioned earlier, raising public awareness about alternative green paper is a long journey, given that the market for eco-friendly options remains relatively niche. Expanding awareness and promoting the benefits of water hyacinth paper are essential for driving greater adoption. Additionally, we must refine our processes to ensure consistent quality and meet the increasing demand.

To address these challenges, we first need to enhance our knowledge of related topics, as knowledge is power. Second, it’s crucial to allocate funds effectively towards machinery and technology to improve both production capacity and quality while lowering manufacturing costs. We also need to develop detailed strategies to scale the A.N Paper project, enhancing our competitiveness in today’s intense market. Finally, it’s important to implement marketing efforts that raise awareness about eco-friendly paper, specifically targeting local businesses and environmentally conscious consumers.

In summary, while the A.N Paper project has achieved many successes, there are always areas for improvement.
