Bio of Abdullahi Ahmed Mohamed
I am a dedicated professional with a robust background in Public Administration, Human Resource Management, and Logistics. My journey began with a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration from Global University in Mogadishu, Somalia, where I developed a strong foundation in policy development and organizational management.

My career began as a Logistic and Data Collection Assistant with MSF-Holland, where I gained valuable experience in logistical support and data management. Following that, I served as an Administrative Assistant at UNSOA in Mogadishu, where I honed my administrative skills and learned the importance of effective coordination and communication within diverse teams.

I transitioned to Global University as a Human Resources and Procurement Officer, where I managed recruitment processes, employee training, and procurement practices. This role deepened my understanding of organizational dynamics and compliance with labor regulations.

Currently, I work as a Planning Officer with the Ministry of Planning, Investment, and Economic Development for the Federal Government of Somalia. In this capacity, I assist in policy formulation, data analysis, and project evaluation, collaborating with various stakeholders to support the government’s economic and social development agenda.

Throughout my career, I have pursued continuous professional development, completing several diplomas in Human Resource Management, Maritime Logistics, and Operations Management. I have also engaged in UN training programs, enhancing my skills in peacekeeping and humanitarian operations.

I am passionate about contributing to organizational growth and making a meaningful impact in the communities I serve. My goal is to leverage my skills to drive operational efficiency and foster positive work environments, ultimately supporting the development of human capital in Somalia.

List of strengths that would make me capable of being a UPG Sustainability Leader:  Strong Communication Skills  Creative Problem-Solver  Action-Oriented  Adaptability  Empathy and Inclusiveness  Leadership  Analytical Thinking  Networking Skills  Commitment to Lifelong Learning  Resilience

Two years ago, a Planning Officer at the Ministry of Planning, Investment, and Economic Development in Somalia developed a community engagement initiative to enhance local participation in sustainable development projects. The initiative faced skepticism from the communities, but the team proposed workshops to build trust and encourage participation. The creative problem-solver used interactive activities, such as mapping exercises and role-playing scenarios, to engage diverse community members. The workshops were overwhelmingly positive, fostering stronger relationships between the government and the community, leading to increased participation in sustainability efforts. Local leaders emerged, and many community members took ownership of the projects, which were implemented successfully and are still ongoing.

I have an experience volunteering, particularly during my first year at the Ministry of Planning, Investment, and Economic Development. I involved in community outreach projects promoting sustainable development practices, organizing workshops and information sessions on topics like renewable energy, waste management, and resource utilization. I have learned the importance of community engagement, the value of flexibility and adaptability, the importance of collaboration skills, and the value of empowering community members to participate actively in sustainability efforts. I also learned the value of building partnerships and simplifying complex concepts for effective outreach.

The Community Urban Gardening Initiative is a sustainability-related project that aims to promote sustainable food production, community engagement, and local biodiversity. It can improve food security, contribute to environmental benefits, foster social interaction, and educate participants about sustainable practices. The project also promotes mental health and well-being. The implementation plan includes community assessment, partnerships, site selection, workshops, garden design, and maintenance. The project’s success is attributed to the project’s strong background in community engagement, project planning, and sustainability, as well as the ability to mobilize community interest and address challenges during the implementation phase.

The Community Renewable Energy Initiative faces several challenges, including convincing community members to support solar energy, securing funding, navigating local regulations, ensuring technical expertise, engaging diverse community members, and maintaining interest and momentum. To overcome these challenges, the initiative should launch an awareness campaign, collaborate with local governments, NGOs, and renewable energy companies, and explore crowdfunding options. Collaborating with legal experts and implementing training programs can also help overcome the lack of local expertise in solar technology installation and maintenance. A participatory approach, involving community leaders and representatives, and establishing a community advisory board can help maintain interest and momentum throughout the project’s lifecycle.
