I were to choose one strength from the list above, I would select “strategic thinking” because it is valuable at all levels and in any contexts. If I may say, strategic thinking not only focuses on immediate solutions but also long-term plans and goals. For example, when I faced challenges engaging with religious groups in hard-to-reach and remote communities, I developed a strategic plan to reach them. I conducted stakeholders analysis, created mapping strategies, used onion diagrams, and implemented tailored communication strategies. These methods were all part of my strategic approach to connect with our target groups. While the process is time consuming it proved to be creditably effective. Through persistence and dedication, we not only achieved our goals but also built credibility and established a strong network.

Yes, I have volunteered in various roles, but my most memorable experience was in 2012 when I volunteered as a community organizer in Mindanao Humanitarian Action and Development (MinHAD), Inc. It was a huge local armed conflict took place between BIFF, armed group, and government forces. We conducted relief operations for communities affected by conflict in Maguindanao, ARMM then, and organized a psychosocial support sessions for children in schools who had been impacted by the violence. Despite the risks to our own safety, it was a rewarding experience to be there, offering support and helping to save lives. One of the most priceless moments was seeing the children enjoy our sessions. Even year later, some of them still recognize me, which is a testament to the lasting impact we made.

If I were to lead a sustainability-related project in my community, I will focus on “waste management cum saving of our rivers”. I think this is very timely and urgent. These areas are often neglected, even by our local community. In my experience, poor waste management leads to a host of many problems, including flooding, the spread of diseases, poison, decline in tourism and economy. Similarly, rivers that are not properly managed can suffer from pollution and depletion of resources, which affects both the environment and local livelihoods. I believe that if we could address these main problems, it will significantly improve public health, enhance environmental quality, enhance economy, and promote sustainable development in our community.

One of the challenges is budget and acceptance from community. As to budget, I think it is need to work with other organizations, who providing grants. Second, it could be the local government unit or the national government. However, another problem is that, would it be there priority agenda? In many cases but not all, local authorities play politically. Another way to overcome or to convince them is to conduct a research that support the project. As to second challenge – acceptance of the community. I would integrate policy and provide legal basis. Another one is I will incorporate religious and cultural norms on protecting and saving the environment in order to gain support from the community. In that sense, they will be not only legally but also morally responsible in supporting this project objectives.
